Prayer
Philippians 4: 6 – “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and pleading with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God”.
I. The Word Prayer
1A. Comes from Latin word precariat = petition

# tephillah comes from pala = to fall down to ground in the presence of one in authority

3C. The Greek word proseuche = to wish or vow immediately before God
– Proseuche comes from 2 words: pros = towards or before
– Euche = wish or vow
II. What is Prayer or the definition of Prayer
1A. Talk to God and listen from God is called Prayer
2B. To complete God’s will in our life, we communicate with Him is called Prayer
3C. To ask God and Receive from God is called Prayer
4D. Prayer is a dialogue, not just a monologue, in which a believer speaks to God and listens for His guidance.
III. The importance of Prayer
1A. This is the command of the Lord – Luke 18: 1
Now He was telling them a parable to show that at all times they ought to pray
and not become discouraged

And in the early morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house, and went away

IV. The Conditions of Prayer
1A. To believe in Jesus Christ – I John 5: 13 – 15
These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.
2B. Fear of God – Ps. 145: 19
He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him;
He will also hear their cry for help and save them.
3C. Obey the Commandments – I Jn. 3: 22
and whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments
and do the things that are pleasing in His sight.

“Because he has loved Me, I will save him;
I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name.
He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble;

V. The Basic principles for Prayer – ACTS
1A. Adoration – Gen. 24: 26
Then the man bowed low and worshiped the Lord.
2B. Confession – I Jn. 1: 9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
3C. Thanksgiving – Eph. 5: 20
always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to our God and Father
4D. Supplication – Eph. 6: 18
With every prayer and request, pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be alert with all perseverance and every request for all the saints, and pray in my behalf, that speech may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel,
VI. Trinity in Prayer
1A. Prayer must be addressed to the Father – Matt. 6: 9
‘Our Father, who is in heaven,
2B. Prayer must be in the name of Jesus – Jn. 14: 13
And whatever you ask in My name, this I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
3C. Prayer must be filled by the Holy Spirit – Eph. 6: 18
With every prayer and request, pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be alert with all perseverance and every request for all the saints,
VII. When should we pray?
1A. In the Morning – Ps. 5: 3
In the morning, Lord, You will hear my voice; In the morning, I will present my prayer to You and be on the watch.
2B. Noon, Evening – Ps. 55: 16 – 17
As for me, I shall call upon God, And the Lord will save me.
Evening and morning and at noon, I will complain and moan, And He will hear my voice.
3C. Continuously – I Thess. 5: 17

VIII. What are the Hindrances of Prayer?
1A. Doubt – James 1: 6- 8
But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that person ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, being a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
2B. Lack of Faith – Matt. 21: 22
And whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive it all.”

Then they will cry out to the Lord, But He will not answer them.
Instead, He will hide His face from them at that time Because they have practiced evil deeds.
4D. Not obeying the Word – Prov. 28: 9
One who turns his ear away from listening to the Law, even his prayer is an abomination.

X. What should I be praying for:
1A. To open the door for Gospel – Coloss. 4: 3
praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned.
2B. To know the Will of God – Coloss 4: 12
always striving earnestly for you in his prayers, that you may stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God.
3C. To complete the Joy – Jn. 16: 24
Until now you have asked for nothing in My name; ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be made full.
4D. For the Second Coming – Rev. 22: 20
He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
XI. Results of Prayer
1A. Peace of God – Philpp 4: 7
And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
