I. Meaning – study about the Bible

II. Different names used for the Bible:

  1. Bible derived from biblion means roll or books ( LK. 4; 1).
  2. Scripture – 2 Ti. 3: 16
  3. Prophecy – 2 Ptr. 1: 20-21
  4. Commandment of God – Matt. 15: 6
  5. Word of God – Heb. 4: 12

III. Revelation

A. Meaning – disclosure

B. Different revelations:

  1. Through nature – Ps. 19
  2. Through Christ – Jn. 1: 14
  3. Through the Bible – I Jn. 5: 39

IV. Inspiration

A. Definition:

God’s superintending of human authors so that using their own individual personalities , they composed and recoded without error in the words of the original autographs His revelation to man.

B. Reference for inspiration

2 Tim. 3: 16 – 17 – inspiration comes from the Greek word theopneustos means God – breathed. Affirms that God is author of Scripture or Scripture is the product of His creative breath.

C. We believe in Verbal, Plenary Inspiration

The true doctrine concerns the original manuscripts  ; Matt. 5: 18

V. Illumination

A. Meaning: when a person read the Bible the Holy Spirit makes him/ her to understand the Bible is called illumination.

B. In relation to the unsaved John 16: 7- 8

C. In relation to the saved John 16: 13 – 15

VI. Interpretation

A. Interpret grammatically

B. Interpret Historically

C. Interpret according to the immediate and wider context

D. Interpret in harmony with the whole Bible by comparing Scripture with Scripture
