GOOD FRIDAY
Many people died for our country but only one died for our soul, Jesus
Good Friday
In this special day the whole world is celebrating Good Friday, it is important for each of us to know why Jesus came to this world. Bible clearly teaches the real meaning of Good Friday or the purpose of Jesus death. Let’s look one by one:
I. To reveal God to man – John 1: 18
No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.
II. To provide an example for our life – I Peter 2: 21 – 23
For to this you have been called, because Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example, so that you might follow in his steps.
He committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth.
When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten but continued entrusting himself to him who judges justly.
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
III. To Sacrifice for sin – Hebrew 10: 10
And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
IV. To fulfill the Davidic covenant – 2 Samuel 7: 13 cf. Luke 1: 31 – 33
He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.
And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David,
and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”
V. To destroy the works of Devil – I John 3: 8
Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil.
VI. To become a merciful High priest – Hebrew 4: 14 – 16
Since then, we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.
For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
VII. To be a righteous Judge – John 5: 23 and 27
that all may honor the Son, just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him.
And he has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of Man.
Many people died for our country but only one died for our soul, Jesus, let’s accept Him as our personal Saviour and Lord so that this day become a Good Friday in our life.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
